The largest rope access association in North America, most closely tied to the wind farm industry.
SPRAT (Society of Professional Rope Access Technicians) is an international professional association of rope access technicians founded in the USA in the mid-1990s. It is the organisation most closely connected worldwide with the wind farm industry — its members work on turbines both onshore and offshore.
The SPRAT technician certificate opens the door to a career in the wind farm industry and other industries using rope access on land and at sea in numerous countries around the world.
Training levels
SPRAT Level 1
4 days + 1 exam day
For those starting a career in rope access. Building basic stations and anchor points, basic rope and rescue techniques.
SPRAT Level 2
4 days + 1 exam day
Requires a minimum of 6 months as Level 1 and 500 working hours. Rope hauling and transport techniques, a wide range of self-rescue.
SPRAT Level 3
4 days + 1 exam day
Requires a minimum of 12 months as Level 2 and 1,000 working hours. Advanced self-rescue and team rescue techniques.
Direct Entry L2 / L3
4 days + 1 exam day
For individuals with 1,000–1,500 hours in a similar system, approved by the SPRAT Training Committee.

- At least 18 years old
- Physical and mental fitness ensuring safe work at height
- Resistance to difficult weather conditions
- No medical contraindications (including heart disease, fear of heights, balance disorders)
