Basic Work at Height Training

For newly hired employees and those not yet authorised to perform work at height. Duration: 1–2 days.

Course designed for newly hired employees undergoing induction, employees changing job positions, and people prior to being authorised to perform work at height. Prepares employees to perform work at height using standard/construction access methods with Personal Protective Equipment.

Theory

Legal regulations and Standards governing work at height. Causes of accidents related to work at height. Mandatory training for employees performing work at height. Hierarchy of protective measures used during work at height. Regulations concerning evacuation and rescue during work at height. Securing and organising the work site. Risk Assessment, Health and Safety Plan, Rescue Plan. Methods of working at height with Personal Protective Equipment. Basic requirements for working in basket and scissor lifts. Forces occurring during a fall of a worker using Personal Protective Equipment. Fall Factor. Suspension trauma.

Practice

Basics of the technical inspection of protective equipment. Safety harnesses. Anchor points for fall arrest systems. Connectors and carabiners used during work at height. Installing anchor points. Work restraint systems. Work positioning systems. Fall arrest and shock-absorption systems. Self-retracting devices. Vertical and horizontal mobile fall arrest systems. Permanent fall arrest systems. Rescue and evacuation during work at height.

Requirements

Protective clothing, at least 18 years of age, valid medical certificate authorising work at height above 3 m.
